Pipe Handling Attachment - PHA4000
Overview
The Aardwolf PHA4000 is an automatic concrete pipe lifting attachment built for contractors who lay drainage and storm sewer pipe. With a working load limit of 8,818 lb and a published gripping range of 11.8–47.2 in, it lets your crew lift, position and set heavy concrete pipe sections with less time spent at the pipe.
Its narrow profile fits into tight trenches, and an automatic lock/unlock mechanism cuts down on hands-on work during each lift. The attachment needs no hydraulic hookup, and there’s no need to wrap slings or chains around the pipe to grip it.
How It Works
The PHA4000 clamps the concrete pipe while your crane, excavator or other approved lifting machine provides the lift and placement. The automatic mechanism locks onto the load at pickup and releases it after set-down.
Before each lift, verify the pipe’s weight, dimensions and condition, and confirm the attachment and carrier are rated for the job. Engage the attachment as described in the operator’s manual, lift and position the pipe, set it on stable bedding or support, and complete the release procedure in the manual.
This overview explains the operating principle only. The operator’s manual governs setup, engagement, release and inspection.
Key Features
- Automatic load locking and unlocking for fast, repeatable pipe handling
- Working load limit of 8,818 lb
- Gripping range of 11.8–47.2 in
- Published pipe length specification of 98.4 in (approx. 8.2 ft)
- Narrow profile for setting pipe in confined trenches
- Dedicated clamping mechanism holds the pipe securely during placement
- No hydraulic power supply required
- Durable powder-coated finish
Applications
- Installing concrete storm sewer, culvert and drainage pipe in trenches
- Setting concrete pipe on municipal, DOT and site-development projects
- Moving and staging compatible concrete pipe in yards and laydown areas
- High-volume pipe laying where trench clearance limits access
Confirm suitability for your specific pipe and jobsite conditions before use.
Why Contractors Choose the PHA4000
- Fewer hands at the pipe. Automatic locking and unlocking reduce the need for workers to stand near a suspended load.
- Faster rigging. No slings or chains to wrap around each pipe section.
- Works in tight trenches. The narrow profile helps you place pipe where clearance is limited.
- Controlled placement. A purpose-built clamp gives steady positioning during set-down.
- No hydraulic lines. Nothing to plumb into your machine to power the attachment.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the PHA4000’s maximum working load?
The published working load limit is 8,818 lb. Your carrier must also be rated for the combined weight of the pipe, the 1,676 lb attachment and any other rigging at the actual working radius and configuration.
What size concrete pipe can it handle?
The published gripping range is 11.8–47.2 in, with a listed pipe length of 98.4 in (approx. 8.2 ft). Contact Aardwolf to confirm how the gripping dimension applies to your pipe diameter, length and profile.
Does it need hydraulic power?
No. The attachment does not require a hydraulic supply. A suitable crane, excavator or other lifting machine is still required to lift and place the load.
Do I need slings or chains?
Not around the pipe. The clamp grips the pipe directly. This does not cover how the attachment connects to your machine; use the connection specified by Aardwolf.
Does a worker need to be at the pipe during the lift?
Automatic locking and unlocking reduce the need for hands-on assistance. Your lift plan and site conditions may still require a signal person, spotter or other support.
Can it lift steel, ductile iron or plastic pipe?
The PHA4000 is described for concrete pipe. Get confirmation from Aardwolf before using it with other pipe materials, coatings or profiles.
Will it fit my excavator or crane?
Universal compatibility is not claimed. Confirm the connection, lifting capacity and operating requirements with Aardwolf and your equipment supplier before use.
What should I inspect before each use?
Follow the operator’s manual. Check the attachment, clamp and locking mechanism, lifting connection and pipe condition, and remove any damaged equipment from service.
